For the first time in 2008 the Mid Columbia Medical Center is sponsoring one of the largest children’s cycling events in the Northwest, the Mt Hood Cycling Classic, Friday, May 16 in The Dalles. Kids are invited to join the festivities surrounding the pro race by racing themselves on a smooth fast course located in Downtown The Dalles.
Mid-Columbia Medical Center is pleased to join the event this year, and sees it as an excellent opportunity to promote health and fitness to today’s youth while stressing bike safety and helmets.
With the support of the MCMC this event will be free to all participants. The race is open to children from training wheelers to 12-year-olds. Kid’s will get a chance to race on the smooth fast criterium course that will run around the Columbia River Bank Corporate Offices. The race will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Streets will be closed to traffic between 6 and 9 p.m.
Categories will run in two year increments starting at 4 years and younger. Awards will be given to the top three placers in each category.
All kids will leave the event with a number of cool items including custom race numbers, race shirt, water bottle and other race items. In addition to the racing top professional men and women from the U.S. circuit will be on hand to sign autographs and talk to the kids. Mid Columbia Medical Center will staff bike check and helmet check stations.
The race is limited to 250 participants so make sure and get to registration early.
Registration will open at 4:30 p.m., on Friday, May 16 next to Salmon Cycles. Parking will be available at Oregon Cherry Growers on Madison Street.
Top professional cyclist from across the U.S. and around the world will be on hand to give cycling tips, sign autographs, and encourage the kids as they compete. Come meet the athletes who will be competing in the next Olympic Games!
Cycling is a tremendous low impact activity that helps promote health, fitness, and agility in kids. So the Mt. Hood Cycling Classic and Mid Columbia Medical Center have partnered in encouraging kids to get out and ride!
