MT. HOOD MEADOWS — Pro Tour veteran Patrick McCarty, who’s raced with U.S. Postal, Discovery, Phonak, Garmin-Slipstream and OUCH/Maxxis, pulled off the win at the Indie Hops Cycling Classic’s Queen stage Saturday.
Overall leader Marc de Maar (UnitedHealthcare) added to his advantage in the GC battle with a strong performance after getting isolated on the finishing climb to the ski-resort finish. Team Type 1’s Michael Creed, fourth overall coming into the stage, moved into second after Bissell’s Paul Mach couldn’t hold Creed’s and de Maar’s pace in the final few kilometers of the climb to the ski resort. De Maar and Mach finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Mach finished seventh, 1:18 down on McCarty…

Stage 4 -A Perfect Day for a Bike Race!
By · CommentsThe Wy’East Road Race will be greeted with sunny skies today!
Currently 41 degrees, but it is supposed to warm up to the upper 50’s. (Still not that toasty, but beats rain!)
You can keep track of conditions on our local ski resort’s Web Cams at Mt Hood Meadows
Still plenty of snow to make some turns on too! Maybe when the riders are done with their 92 miles of racing today, they can do some hiking!
I wish Meadows was still open…That half pipe on the left of the pic is still holding some snow! (Just watch a few dirt patches and you’ll be set!)
On a side note:
TT Podiums will take place this morning, 20 minutes before today’s start time (So around 9:40 am) For every category except women. (They did their awards yesterday)
De Maar keeps his yellow jersey with time trial win

HOOD RIVER — Just to remove any doubts, United Healthcare’s Marc De Maar went out and earned the leader’s jersey awarded to him via penalty the previous stage by taking out the stage 3 Scenic Gorge Time trial of the 2010 Indie Hops Mt. Hood Cycling Classic.
The time trial made a moot point of the penalty handed out to teammate Morgan Schmitt on stage 2 for drafting behind a support vehicle. De Maar covered the 18.5-mile windswept course in 44:06.2, just 14 seconds faster than Mach, who placed second in this stage last year. Team Type 1’s Michael Creed finished third with a time of 44:20.2. Last year’s Scenic Gorge Time Trial winner Chris Baldwin (UHC) suffered mechanical problems with a rubbing brake on his TT bike and finished more than four minutes off the other GC contenders…

Penalty drops Schmitt out of yellow, Hamilton gets stage

TROUT LAKE — United Healthcare team director Gord Fraser got a bit of a shock in the lobby of the team hotel after Mt. Hood’s stage 2 when he was told his rider in yellow lost the leader’s jersey because of a 20-second time penalty for pacing behind a support car after a flat. Organizers had already awarded another jersey to Morgan Schmitt at the podium ceremony before the judges decision was handed down…
