Moninger and Lion Win Three Summit Road Race – 6th Stage of Mt. Hood Cycling Classic
(HOOD RIVER, ORE - June 4, 2006) -- The final stage of the Mt. Hood Cycling Classic was won by the current NRC series champion Scott Moninger of Boulder, CO, who traveled the 75 mile, three summit course in 3 minutes: 18 minutes and 20 seconds. Moninger out sprinted Stage 2 winner Phil Zajicek (Tucson, AZ) who finished just 2 seconds back. Ian McKissick of Everret Washington.
Alisha Lion (Morganton, NC) took first in the women's division, 3 seconds ahead of Mara Abbott (Boulder, CO) and 5 seconds ahead of last year's Classic overall champion Leah Goldstein (Vernon, BC). The three broke from the pakc and finished more than 2 minutes ahead of the next rider.

New Zealand's Henderson and Colorado's Powers win Criterium – 5th Stage of Mt. Hood Cycling Classic
(HOOD RIVER, ORE - June 3, 2006) -- Stage 5 of the Classic - the Downtown Hood River Criterium - has become the showcase event. The half a mile course winds around the Full Sail Brewery block. Spectators can get very close up to watch these expert riders reach speeds of 40 miles / hour in packs of 100, winding around turns and making springs.
Greg Henderson of Dunedin, New Zealand finished at the front of the Pro Men's Crit, followed by Bernard Van Ulden (Belmont, CA) and stage two winner Andrew Pinfold (Langley, BC).
Stage 1 winner Alison Powers (Fraser, CO) sprinted past Brooke Miller (Evanston, IL) and Stacy Spencer (Ft. Langley, Alabama) to win the Pro Women's crit.
Australian National Time Trials Champion Nathan O'Neill leads the Pro Men after Stage 5 stages by 47 seconds. Alison Powers also holds a 47 second lead in the Pro Women division. The final stage - the grueling 3 Summit Race on the north side of Mt. Hood - is run on Sunday to determine the overall champions.

O'Neill and Bausch Top Scenic Gorge Time Trial – 4th Stage of Mt. Hood Cycling Classic
(HOOD RIVER, ORE - June 3, 2006) -- Stage 4 of the Classic was a 10.5 mile time trial in the Columbia River Gorge. Australian National Time Trial Champion and overall leader Nathan O'Neill posted the fastest time at 20 minutes: 31.6 seconds, averaging 30 mph. Friday's stage 3 winner Phil Zajicek, of Tucson, Arizona, finished second 13 seconds back. Kevin Rowe, of Bellingham, WA, finished third 28 seconds back.
Classic leader Dotsie Bausch from Irvine, CA, continued her dominance with a first place time of 23 minutes: 44.5 seconds, followed by Leah Goldstein (Vernon, BC) 13 seconds back and Beverly Harper (Portola Valley, CA) down 17 seconds.

Zajicek and Bausch win Cooper Spur Circuit Race – 3rd Stage of Mt. Hood Cycling Classic
(HOOD RIVER, ORE - June 2, 2006) -- The third stage of the Mt. Hood Cycling Classic was run Friday on the north side of Mt. Hood. 600 road racers, including nearly 200 pro men and women are in Hood River this week for the 4th annual classic. The Cooper Spur Circuit Race is a test of mountain climbing – the pro men race 95 miles climbing 9000 vertical while the pro women race 56 miles climbing 5400 feet.
Phil Zajicek of Tucson, Arizona crossed the finish line just ahead Nathan O’Neil – the Australian National Time Trials Champion – and Scott Moninger, of Boulder, Colorado – the current NRC series champion. All three finished the 95 miles in a time of 4 hours: 12 minutes and 41 seconds.
Dotsie Bausch of Irvine, CA won the pro women’s race, followed by Alison Powers of Fraser, Colorado and Alisha Lion of Morganton, North Carolina – traveling the 56 miles in 3 hours: 4 minutes and 33 seconds.
After three stages Bausch leads the women and O’Neill is at the top of the pro men’s field.

Pinfold, Miller take the second stage - a "desert" course that turned rainy
(HOOD RIVER, ORE - June 1, 2006) -- The innaugural COLUMBIA HILLS ROAD RACE stage of the classic took the pro riders east to The Dalles, OR - a more arrid climate than previous stages have offered.
The 28 mile loop catered to sprinters - not a lot of climbing required.
Pro Men went 3 laps / Pro Women went 2 laps.
Dry start for everyone, rainy finish for the men making the course a little tricky, but allowing a massive sprint to the finish.

Friday the Classic heads to the mountains for stage 3 - the Cooper Spur Circuit Race on mountain roads on the north side of Mt. Hood. The men will ride 95 miles climbing a total of 9000 vertical feet.

O'Neil, Powers win first stage of Mt. Hood Cycling Classic
(HOOD RIVER, ORE - May 31, 2006) -- Health Net's Nathan O'Neil and Rio Grande/Sports Garage's Alison Powers won the opening stage of the Mt. Hood Cycling Classic on Wednesday in Hood River, Ore. O'Neil covered the three-mile time trial stage in 6 minutes 7 seconds. Powers did it in 7:17. The course gained only 150 feet in elevation, but it was not flat. Riders were greeted with a steep hill immediately out of the start house followed by a descent of more than a mile and a steep climb at the finish.
Second for the men was Ryan Trebon of AEG-Toshiba-Jetnetwork (6:16), followed by Ian McKessick of Recycled Cycles (6:23). Second for the women was Dotsie Bausch of Colavita/Cooking Light (7:17), followed by Suz Weldon of TRIA (7:30).
Tomorrow the men are slated to race 84 miles over a mostly flat, technical and possibly windy course. The women will race 56 miles over the same roads.
